Although both radial shockwave (rESWT) and laser therapies are effective individually, their mechanisms target different stages of tissue repair. Shockwave therapy mechanically stimulates slow-to-heal soft tissues by breaking pathological tissue patterns, remodeling collagen, and stimulating neovascularization. Whereas Laser Therapy (Photobiomodulation or PBMT) stimulates cellular and biochemical stimulation through ATP production and mitochondrial enhancement, anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant effects that result in tissue repair and regeneration. This course reviews the mechanisms of action of rESWT and PBMT as well as how these two effective modalities complement each other to provide Synergistic Effects of Laser Therapy & Shockwave Therapy.
