Student members who are in the second year of their Massage Therapy Program and are graduating in 2024 can attend this course and receive PD credits when they become an Active MTAA member.

Participants will leave this course with the skills and confidence needed to incorporate this popular modality safely into their daily practice.

During this 8-hour in-person class, massage therapists will learn how to safely heat, clean, and store their hot stone therapy equipment. Therapists can look forward to a detailed review of all contraindications and safety precautions needed to work safely with hot stones. A large portion of the class will include hands-on practise with a partner to gain the practical skills needed to confidently incorporate hot stone therapy into an effective massage therapy treatment plan. At the conclusion of the course, therapists will have confidence that they have full coverage under their professional liability insurance to incorporate hot stones into their practise. Participants will not be required to complete additional practicum hours in order to receive their certification in hot stone therapy following the in-person class.

Required for the course:

Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable, breathable clothing.

Indoor shoes - no outdoor footwear is permitted.

Water bottle

1 – Medium sized towel

2 – Hand towels

1 – Light colored pillowcase

1 – Set massage sheets

Unscented massage oil (no gel or lotion)

Professional Hot Stone Heater (6 Qt recommended, but may be larger if preferred)

Set of Basalt Stones with at minimum:

· 1- Sacral Stone (4.5” diameter or larger)

· 4 – Large Stones (3-4” diameter)

· 4- Medium Stones (3-3.5” diameter)

· 2 – Small Stones (2-2.5” diameter)

Optional:
Participants are welcome to bring additional stones if desired such as Jade Stones.

About New Roasters

Members who purchase a new roaster for their hot stones must ensure that they follow the steps to “smoke or cure” the new roaster before attending the course. Instructions to do this are provided when you purchase a hot stone roaster. Registrants who do not complete this necessary step will not be able to complete the hands-on portion of the course.
