Course Evaluation Request

Thank you for your interest in having a course evaluated by the Massage Therapy Association of Alberta (MTAA). To initiate the evaluation process, please complete the MTAA Course Evaluation Form in full. All required information and documentation must be submitted before a course can be reviewed by the MTAA Competence Committee.


Course Evaluation Fee
A non-refundable fee of $50 plus GST per course submission is required and must be paid prior to evaluation. Please note that refunds will not be issued for courses that are declined or denied due to insufficient documentation.

 

Course Outline Requirements
detailed course outline must be submitted for each hour of instruction. This information enables the Competence Committee to gain a comprehensive understanding of all course components. Submissions lacking sufficient detail may be declined.
 

Additional Information & Review Timelines
The MTAA reserves the right to request further information beyond what is outlined in the Course Evaluation Form. The MTAA also reserves the right to decline any course evaluation or re-evaluation request at its discretion.

Please allow up to 60 days or more for the review process to be completed. Timelines may vary depending on the complexity of the review, the volume of submissions, and whether additional information is required. While every effort is made to ensure timely processing, delays may occur due to Competence Committee scheduling and administrative requirements.
 

Submission Requirements
The MTAA will not accept partial submissions. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that all required materials are submitted as outlined in the Course Evaluation Form. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

The MTAA promotes an evidence-based approach to treatment, and all references must support this standard. Any materials, references, studies, or claims that the committee deems unsupported may result in denial of approval. Testimonials are not considered valid references.*

Instructor Qualifications

Please upload a copy of the course instructor(s) resume or CV as well as a copy of their good standing. The good standing must be from the association or regulatory college they belong to. The good standing must show when their membership is valid until. 
 

All instructors must have three (3) years of practice experience as a fully licensed practitioner in their field to be approved to teach PD courses to meet MTAA requirements.

When an instructor is not an RMT: In these cases, the instructor must hold a formal professional designation such as that for a Physiotherapist, Chiropractor, Medical Doctor, Nurse, Acupuncturist, CPA, etc. in their related field. The instructor must hold a current membership and show proof of good standing with their governing body. Instructors must have at least 3 years of experience in their related field in order to be accepted by the MTAA. Only in cases of marketing and other business-related courses will we make an exception. Practitioners in fields that do not confirm a formal designation will not be accepted. This includes but is not limited to: Doulas, Somatic Release Practitioners, Dance Instructors, Fitness Coaches, Spa Practitioners, etc. Please confirm the instructor’s designation and the name of the governing body they belong to ( regulatory college or professional association).

Confirmation of professional designation is required for each course instructor. This can be achieved by submitting a current letter of good standing with the instructor’s regulatory college or accepted professional association. Instructors who hold current membership with a regulatory college have the option to confirm their status by uploading a copy of their membership that can be copied from the college public registry.*

Consent To Audit

The MTAA reserves the right to request a member of the Competence Committee or an assigned designate to audit any online or in-person courses free of charge. This may occur at any time during the approval period for this course. Committee members ( or designate) must be provided access to the course in its entirety. Failure to meet this requirement may result in courses being denied approval, or approval being paused until the course has been audited.
